I'm a guy and the shorter version of this I use is "if the answer must be now the answer must be no." Applies to any sales decisions as well when they try to pressure you to make a decision on the spot.

You came to the relationship at Chapter 17. He's been there 1-16. My dad always said that wrt in-law dynamics. Only took me 13 years to understand and follow husband's lead vs trying to "fix" what seemed broken to me.
Omigosh, this. I tried to help my dh with his challenging mom and everytime I interfered it came back to bite me on the ass. I stay out of it now and we’re all better off for it.

Leave it alone OP, If it's not broken, don't fix it. Your DH is the better judge of how to articulate with his own parents. He is also a saint.
