They are always strong at the younger ages and by high school they start dropping in rankings. That's always been Arlington.



People love to hate that 2011 Arlington and projecting they will fail in the future. They are 12 years old kids. Maybe they will or maybe they won’t. We played against them and parents can be very annoying on the sideline but they have a couple of key players that holding the team together that are elite players. Their CB is one of them as when she wasn’t in, they lost to Charlotte a while ago and when they played them again recently, they beat Charlotte 3-0. Their 2 strikers are also very good and gritty.

So unless u see these kids leaving to other clubs, I think the team will continue to do well in this region. The real test is when they go to the playoff. How much these handful of kids will be able to carry the team then if their midfielders can’t hold the ball.

They never cut and they don't develop. This is why by age 16, their teams aren't very good.


Their ECNL rosters NEVER change. At most 1-2 kids every few years.

Serious question, what does the parent politics look like? I have a 10u player.

Duh. If you are developing from within the IDENTICAL/SAME players would not always be on the top team. Kids don't ALL develop in that manner. A club (I've been at one) that truly is developmental--has a lot of movement over the years and a lot of playing up/down, bio-banding, etc.

A club that has 100 kids in an age group and the same 10 are on a team from U8-U18 is not developmental. Kids CHANGE so much in that time.


ECNL/MLSnext/GA should be cutting home grown players as other players leave clubs that top out at EDP. That's the whole point of having clubs in leagues that play at different levels. If a club is unwilling to take a look at a kid who comes from CYA or Gunston or Herndon then they aren't maximizing the talent on their team

There are many players playing on EDP teams and similar leagues that can easily play in ECNL and MLS Next.
People get too caught up with group labels and badges versus the realities of individual players.


So many. DS came from an EDP club and tried out/practiced with a few MLSNext clubs. Offered a spot on all of them and is a starter on the team he selected.

Arlington parents here. Sure there are politics but that’s every club and every team has some. More or less. I’ve never seen kids who are outright BETTER than the academy players that haven’t been moving up.

I’ve seen kids who are about the same level as academy players didn’t get move up a lot.

No kidding, politics is the only explanation. it's almost impossible to get a Red player onto the academy team, although the Red player is and has been better than half of the Academy team. It is definitely a glass ceiling, so the frustrated player changes clubs.


Maybe to u they are but not to the coaches.

Then why have tryouts in the first place ? I guess kids from other clubs should be made aware not to even bother coming out.

We’re having a great experience with Liverpool FC. Such a good local club. Kept all of its excellent coaches when they took on the Liverpool name, coaches are nurturing but bring out the best in kids, they seem organized and communicate clearly. Zero toxic coach vibe, zero contempt for parents I’ve seen in other places. It’s not perfect but it’s been good so far!
