6 EA (accepted at 5, deferred at 1 waiting on RD)

13 total (some with music auditions)
No ED or ED2
5 EA (been accepted at 4, 1 deferral to RD)

After the EA acceptances, withdrew from 2 of the remaining RDs (which were safeties).
At this point, all remaining RDs are reaches! March will be interesting... good luck to all the other families still waiting!

2. 1 rolling safety. Accepted ED1.

10 - also high stat kid. All apps except 2 reaches were submitted by 11/1, but no ED.

2 Safeties - in a both with very generous of merit (accepted before Thanksgiving)
3 targets - in at all of them with some merit (received 2 decisions before Christmas and 1 early Feb)
5 reaches -denied at 1 REA, in at 1 EA, waiting for last 3

DC is very happy to have great options at this point. Currently, the reach EA and one of the targets are top 2 choices. We're glad DC spent time to create a realistic and thoughtful list so they didn't need to shotgun 15+. Juggling school, a fall sport, a part time job and apps was incredibly stressful. But, it was also nice for DC to be done and hit that submit button before going to a party Halloween night.

Maybe not merit but my daughter applied to 5 Ivies and 3 additional private super reaches because the financial aid is so generous. They’re basically lottery tickets and the prize is a great education

This. My kid is a junior, but I can see applying to 15-20: A handful of schools in the tuition exchange program (spouse works at a college, but the TE thing is by no means a sure thing, especially if you are reaching for BU or GW); a handful of state schools that offer great but very hard to get merit scholarships; and a handful of reaches, which we would consider stretching to pay full price for.

5 for an average student, all were considered targets: 4 acceptances, 1 deferred

Kid pretty happy with one of the EAs.

It was plenty, since you're also doing scholarship apps and summer program apps. (Luckily summer research program accepted and done.)
