8 years ago already? My kid was a senior when it happened and I vaguely remember many kids were trying to defend the kid who did it. Honestly, it was really disgusting to hear such a thing and I’m really disappointed how the admin and former principal handled the incident.
We’re in the cluster and I didn’t realize it had been that long either!
The entire incident was handled terribly and the Super (Jack Smith at the time) was so dismissive of parent concerns.

I’d imagine with the current principal and admin of that school, this situation would be 100x worse. What happened to Ms Bensen anyway?
Ms. Bensen retired after the 2020-21 year, guess she was tired of working as the principal there after almost a decade. No idea what else leading up to her retirement to be fair with you.
In all honesty, I don’t see much improvement. Rockville is already one of the most hated schools in MCPS according to DCUM forums.
I’m a parent of two students at RHS and a longtime DCUM reader, and I can assure you that most parents I know there are happy with RHS. There was a fight last week and my kids say it’s the first one they heard of in awhile. I heard that some of the other schools have several big fights a week. Rockville is not the cesspool people somehow think it is.

Anonymous wrote:Former RHS parent here—I’ve had two students graduate from Rockville and they had different experiences.
DD—went through the IB program. Most if not all of the IB teachers she had were excellent. She felt the program was extremely challenging (sometimes expressed it was too much work) but did feel extremely well prepared for college. She is now at a highly competitive private university thriving. She is a very social person and found plenty of activities at RHS and did benefit from the sports teams being less competitive.
DS—Less academically inclined than DD but more into sports. He did not do IB and went through most of HS in the regular level classes, challenging himself to the occasional honors. The regular level classes are full of behavior issues and students needing a lot of support. So we felt my son was basically ignored in those classes because the teacher’s attention went to all of the other kids. He didn’t particularly enjoy those classes because of the crazy behavior which is why he started taking honors courses. He really enjoyed the community and friends he made through sports.
I think overall RHS is a good school but yes, kids get into trouble there, just like at other schools. I’m talking to some neighbors who are teachers at other county schools, it seems like lack of discipline is something coming from the county/state, that schools have little control over.
