DS's best friends (FCPS) both had 3.8 UW/ 4.2+ WGPA (so we think) with 1480+ SATs. One was Hispanic with 2 UVA alum parents, one was white but descended from 2 generations of UVA alums (including both parents).
Both were rejected in 2021.
So no, the school doesn't favor legacy at all. And VA opted to build up VT, JMU, GMU, VCU, etc., instead of expanding UVA and W&M (or, more accurately, the former UVA/W&M satellite campuses became CNU, ODU, etc.). The reality is that many applicants who appeared like strong candidates for UVA in the 1980s now have to head to JMU (and that's no walk in the park either).

But..... six of her friends got in EA and only two are going. So, 4 spots just pissed into the wind at her HS. And she has to sit it all out.
It just sucks. I can't help but be irate that some kid from Jersey can go there but my daughter can't
The measly $1000 I donated every year will cease.

Send her to Rutgers. That'll show those Jersey greaseballs who's boss.

You paid an app fee? You're an idiot. Third week in October was free application to every school in the commonwealth.![]()
