And you can't change culture with wrap-around services. The community has to want to change. How do you promote cultural change in a dysfunctional culture? I have no idea. \

The first thing should be for the government to admit that these groups have been wronged. Next, reparations would be a huge step forward in addressing the inequality created by systemic discrimination. After 300 years of reparations, then we can see if we need to do anything else.

Interesting, how do you think reparations will help initiate cultural change? Would giving money to large numbers of people reduce their incentives to work? Or are you saying that if we fund people to stay home with their children they will do a better job raising them? do we have evidence that large welfare states improve societal outcomes?

Yes, we do. We also have evidence that Universal Basic Income is effective. It's unfortunate that you are asking those questions as though they were rhetorical questions (which they are not).

Provide the evidence.

At the very least it is more cost efficient. The amount of money we spend administrating many of these programs is way more than the cost associated with people potentially scamming the system.

Same thing with teen pregnancy - offer cash for forgoing having children until after high school graduation- both boys and girls.

Teach personal finance and explain realistically how to move from low income to middle income. Normalize it’s ok to move away to do better for yourself. Sadly it’s not some made up talking point that earning a middling salary isn’t worth it bc you lose benefits. Think about it - do you think $45k is enough in this area to pay market rent and all other expenses for a mom and two kids?

Increase access to youth sports - many different sports. To give kids more options and to start moving sports away as a career goal. Just play for something to do.

Incentivize only having one child by offering additional benefits.

Instead of more apartment rented as affordable housing - condos that are purchased at affordable prices.

Better coordination with the federal govt office es in DC for hiring students directly after high school graduation. But also provide some DE courses while in high school so students who want to can get a start on a degree.

Create an option for a high school students who ar essentially failing or who can’t read or do math at grade level are significantly behind to get a basic diploma by taking an intensive phonics based reading and remedial math for a couple hours a day vs the standard 6 hour day their senior year so that they will graduate being able to at least read and do basic math.

That’s gonna get them a free car? All those services bar cash transfer are available now

That is intrinsic to the parents and not something determined by "services" or lack thereof.

A lot of issues stem from culture and parenting. Most kids will not go against those 2 things while in same environment.

UBI I agree with. It’s a direct cash tf. Requires very few people, very hard to grift by the dc.gov employees.

Wrap around is a failure and too expensive in overhead and grifting

No. Instead Invest heavily in teachers, community centers and make sure there are free things for kids to do 24/7. Tutoring, sports, arts etc. some kids will opt in others will not. Increase juvenile detention and school discipline. Remove problem kids to alternative schools. Don’t punish the good kids by rewarding the bad ones.

I agree. Wrap around services are treating the symptom so will help some but they don't address the true cause of generational poverty and the crime that follows. Universal basic income would help with the poverty.

No, I'm not going to waste my time arguing with anonymous randos. You can find the evidence yourself, if you're interested. If you're not interested, that's on you.

There is no evidence, and your Marxist views need to die an agonizing death.
