But you have accepted this. It doesn't have to be a battle. He doesn't have to make a grand expensive gesture but he can't write a note or get a card and some flowers from the store?

I've never been a fan but DH and I are generally thoughtful and romantic so having a day designated for it seemed silly.

DH makes me dinner, gets me a card, flowers and chocolate from the grocery store. I get him a card and make him homemade fudge or chocolate covered strawberries. We are both happy with this. I also share my chocolates with him.

I do not (wife). I think it's a stupid holiday. I'd rather my husband treat me well all the time and buy me random things as he thinks of them, not because it's a specific day in February. I also have never liked roses and chocolate isn't my thing.

I don’t care about gifts and cards and stuff most of the time but DH knows he has to buy me my favorite chocolates on Valentine’s Day.

He knows this because I told him! LOL Really it’s just an excuse to just get my favorite candy. If he forgot I wouldn’t be mad or hurt.

But he faithfully orders it every year, year after year—clearly a symbol of his devoted love. Or, maybe the candy company does email reminders!

I should have spent more time selecting a compatible my wife. DW loves Valentine’s Day. And I am under insane pressure to make sure it’s over the top. It’s frankly ridiculous.

Same! I like celebrating love. I put a few decorative pieces in the living room starting the first of the month and filled heart shaped bowls with valentine chocolates. I have a son and it is so cute watching him talk to DH about what to get me. Ever since he was little, I always got him a valentines treat and most years we get heart shaped pizza - a fun tradition. DH sends flowers or picks up a bouquet. I don't need a fancy dinner out or an elaborate gift but it is fun to celebrate love.

I'm a wife and never cared for it. DH remembers it most of the quarter century we've been together but no big deal when he forgets or realizes late. Its a made up consumer day, what matters is love not the display.

Wife here. We try to do something special to spend quality time together on Valentine’s Day, often taking the day off of work so we can go out to lunch and maybe a local excursion we would both enjoy while the kids are in school. It’s more about connecting and we don’t do gifts, but maybe a card. Celebrate (or not) but if you do, don’t just go through the motions, discuss what aspects are important to your SO and make it meaningful to you as a couple.
