this sounds like a take home test, not one your doctor orders as part of your blood work. Nothing routine about this one.

Under none of those circumstances would it be a secret from their life partner.

It's also very common to take an HIV and STD test when someone is having sex with prostitutes, or gay men, or having questionable encounters.

Choose your adventure.

I suspect most spouses that don't have anything to hide would be very upfront about why they are getting an HIV test. In case something came in the mail or something awkward like that

+1. My gyno does STD/STI testing and said it’s my job to trust my husband and her job to protect me.

My doctor ordered an HIV test along with other things when I complained about fatigue. I'd have started "working late" every day if my wife accused me of being on Grindr because of it.

Because a good portion of spouses find out their spouses weren’t monogamous from the doctor. They will check. Cheating is just too common.

I got an HIV test a couple of years after I'd been really sick - I'd seen a doctor that set off alarm bells and one of the reasons why was that I thought she reused needles on me. So I got tested.

Same here. I thought it was useless since I'm monogamous plus get HIV tests when I give blood but it was easier to let them do it than to try to get them to change from the default.

Does he work offshore or in a high risk environment? It's mandatory there because access to Healthcare can sometimes be very far away and other people need to know in case of an accident.

Another reason would be life insurance.

I got one last year because I've been feeling crappy and sick and I literally got tested for EVERYTHING. I didn't rule anything out. I don't have risky sex but you just never know. Hopefully it is something similar.
