Subject: Kids telling me all their negative stuff
We call it the “airing of grievances”. After a while of it, I might mention that phrase - in a light hearted way - and the kid will often laugh or it helps to lighten their spirits. Sometimes they just need to vent. And sometimes I need to help them not spiral…

My kids tell me everything good and bad and still do in college, which I appreciate. They trust me with it all and when things get really bad, and they can, I’m glad they know they can talk to me.
Nobody is saying they don't want their kids to talk to them, just that it is sometimes a lot of negativity and worry to take on.
I don't take it on. I listen, repeat back to make sure I heard correctly, empathize and let it go
People like you are so annoying. That is your take on your one kid. Good for you. Not every teen, family, multiple kids, and situations are the same.
