It seems to me that they expect you to be responsible for something more than starting the zoom call, even if that’s how it’s framed. That would be my concern.

I missed that OP has worked for company for 11 years.

Have you really kept a 40 hour work week and no late nights at an F10 all that time? These are companies like Apple, Amazon, Walmart, Alohabet, etc. most pay really really well but expectations are high. Aren’t you making like $500k?

This is an unreasonable request for twice a month, especially if it was not previously part of her job responsibilities or something that had been previously noted as a potential expectation of her role. Working 8 pm -3 pm and 8 am -5:30 or 6 pm back to back is not a reasonable expectation if your job was previously normal US business hours.

They need to compensate her for this change, allow her to take the next day off (w/o PTO use), or find someone in the right time zone.

Unless she makes a stink about it, they won't care.

However, I would not lead the discussion with "I add no value", but should note that you don't know what the protocol or escalation process would be if something should go wrong since this was not a project that you previously oversaw and it seems like a project manager on-site with the team who is involved with the development would be better positioned to address issues if they arise. Clearly even if you did have to do this overnight call, someone needs to share some more information with you about what they are actually looking for you to do (e.g. are they looking for you to make the go/no go decision if the update isn't right? versus actually direct any technical changes).

I am confused are you staying up till 3 am or just jumping online for a few minutes at 3am?

I used to have something at 4 am once a month. I had laptop on kitchen I just go on line in PJs for 30 minutes and back to bed.

Is it like that?

When you speak with your boss, you need to use the word “unreasonable,” as it, “It’s unreasonable to expect me to work 19 hours across 25 hours across two days.”

Frankly, I would quit over this.

There are a lot of things unneeded and not managed well. No one else wants to do this, so unless you can pawn it off on someone else…you are likely SOL.

I'm salaried but I earn comp time (PTO) if directed to join meetings after US business hours. You could ask for that.
But personally I just wouldn't want to do it, and would say no.
