Since Blair SMCS is open to all down county, there are a lot of other high performing schools that arguably can be considered "feeder" schools in the sense that there are kids that may apply with great creds. I am referring to schools like Frost, Cabin John, Hoover, Pyle etc that churn out highly motivated students that are well prepared for HS (with the inevitable external enrichment). So if you see a lot of kids from TPMS, that does not mean that they are somehow advantaged or have received special enrichment that makes them ideal for SMCS - it just means that more of them apply and accept compared to the other MS mentioned above.

As a parent who has 2 kids who have been through the SMCS program, one that went through TPMS magnet and the other that went through one of the other schools above, I do have first hand experience. TPMS is good but it is not alone.

It may be true. Also a current family and the class had Cogat testing for HS and they used Cogat for MS too.

Current 9th graders also used Cogat and they are just as capable as older students. As will be the lottery selected TPMS kids next year.

I have a 9th grader. Last year something like 42 were offered spots. The kids had a list. I think maybe a couple didn’t accept. Either way there are around 40 from TPMS in the freshman class.

It could be 30 kids whose home school is TP + more who attend the magnet from other areas.

There is an individual (maybe current 6th or 7th grade TPMS parent) who is very motivated to inflate TP matriculations into Blair. I'd be really surprised if more than one third of TP still matriculates to Blair. It should be more or less similar to other high performing middle schools.

TPMS have always sent way more students to Blair than other high performing middle schools.

Well, it is a very strong school.

It has the MS math/science magnet and is near Blair. Makes sense it would attract the same kids.

NP. I don't understand the accusatory tone from the posts saying someone is trying to inflate TP matriculations to Blair. Why would someone lie? For what purpose? Seems to me it's just a parent who went to an orientation where they heard someone say this and is reporting back. Maybe the administrator who said it was wrong, just rounding very roughly or making generalizations over a longer period. Why are you so fixated on this?

I am the responder and did not make the original post. I attended the Blair Open house years ago but anyone could easily infer that kids were wanted to attend TPMS would be similar to those who wanted to attend Blair.

Thank you! I said I’d put money on this in another thread when I insisted that despite the lottery I was sure that there would STILL be a large number of TPMS admits just as in previous years. I felt that was a very safe bet but I guess others were very interested in denigrating TPMS kids achievements since places started being allocated with a lottery.

30 is in keeping with pre lottery years.

Agree there aren't feeders. It has more to do with which schools have kids who apply more because of interest.
