Do you know what is the major?
We got rejection for CS.

DS is a freshman and interested in CS at UT Austin. Would it be possible to share your DC's stats ?

It doesn't matter. It is a crapshoot. Your ds should just do his best, apply if he still wants to go 3 years and wait and see.

Top kids at our large Texas public school were auto-admits, but did not get their preferred majors. Makes no sense.

At least they can at A&M

Per my SIL (they live in Texas and nephew is another kid who got into UT Austin, but not to his major), A&M does not admit to majors until Sophomore year. They're unwilling to take chances there, so he will likely go elsewhere.

MD kid rejected. 35 ACT, 3.9 unweighted GPA, 10+ APs, accepted in T20 EA, but really had an interest for UT Austin.

Another UT Austin parent. It’s a big school and lots of OOS students do have some issues assimilating. Lots of Texas kids went to HS together/already know each other. I saw lots of Facebook posts in the parents groups about their kids looking for friends. We’ve found folks friendly and caring, but my DC lives with another student from the DMV.

Kids also have issues registering for classes at UT. Lots of classes get filled early and waitlists abound.

DC is happy there and done well, but it is not a college utopia.

As a UT alum and parent of 2 auto-admits, one of whom chose to go elsewhere to a lower ranked school, I can say with confidence that it is not all that. Yes, the engineering school is top notch but there are others just as good. I think so much of the appeal is that it is so hard to get in, but I would say the emperor is half-dressed.

Texas you are sending a college student to a place were in 2025 interstate travel will be gone if Trump is elected.

And Texas is seceding from the US then what?

Dumbass decsions. Paying OOS even dumber.
