My spouse and I both agree that we would put the kids first if it came to a choice. I remember the writer Ayelet Waldman caused a major uproar several years ago for saying she would choose her husband over her children.

It’s my child/children for me op and I would absolutely expect my husband to do the same. I think for most parents if truly in a situation where say you would have to leave your child to drown or you would have to leave your husband to fend for himself and maybe die parents would take child first!

Yes, that is what my DH will naturally be inclined to do because he is a protector at heart, but, I have thought this through and have told this to not only him but my children. I want them to get away. I can survive because I am not seen as a threat.

Who comes first day to day? Each other.

This only applies to born children. When I was pregnant we were both extremely clear that in a decision between my life and an unborn baby, my life comes first. Our daughter needs. Mother more than a sibling.
