When I went to school at Pitt, I made 2 Jewish friends from Bethesda. I had non-Jewish friends who joined a historically Jewish fraternity which I'd estimate was not majority Jewish. A lot of the Jewish kids are from metro NYC/NJ. Two of the more observant frat brothers lived in Squirrel Hill for part of college. Squirrel Hill is one of the more recognized Jewish neighborhoods in Pittsburgh. The Hillel is between Pitt and Carnegie Mellon in Oakland on the major road that connects them.

I feel that Pitt students were not particularly aware of Jewish affiliation since Pittsburgh has had tons of immigrants from different parts of Europe. Lots of people had old country backgrounds not too distant...and a lot of the Christians were Slavic. So pretty easy to blend in. A baba and a bubbe aren't very different, especially if they are both slinging pierogies.

I was attentive to these cues because I lived in Gaithersburg for one year in middle school and became much more aware of Jewish holidays, etc. Also my mom worked on interfaith initiatives.

I cannot speak to current conditions but overall I would say the community would be neutral to positive for students. Unfortunately, prejudice can crop up anywhere.

UF is not a place to send college students religion doesn't matter. Jesus people UF is going to be unaccreddited. Medical school is losing staff like crazy, Professors in Undergraduate science courses are also. Ben Sasse the overload moron is now in charge.
