If she’s feeding squirrels, she’s also feeding every OTHER rodent. Mainly: rats.

That’d be my main concern.

I was wondering what these black pellets carpeting our deck and driveway were. So I googled it. Squirrel poop.

We’ve lived here for 7 years and never noticed anything. Last spring, neighbor started feeding large quantities of shelled peanuts and bird seed to squirrels in her yard.

We’ve all noticed this issue. So have 2 small hawks who now are often perched on her fence waiting for dinner I guess.

Back to original question. Any tips?

Yes, get foxes

DP, we have a neighbor who feeds the foxes and we have very few squirrels.

How can you feed foxes?

Lucky you. There’s a difference between “some squirrels” and an infestation. Squirrels are wild life, and feeding them disrupts the natural balance and leads to overbreeding and eventually to infestations.

OP, I feel for you. We all like the little old ladies in our neighborhoods, and it’s hard to know how to approach her.

We feed birds, squirrels, rabbits and a few cats that ignorant owners think it's okay for them to be outside cats.

My neighbors either don't care or they are too busy to notice. To the person who suggested poison peanuts, you WILL be held accountable for even writing something like that. How cruel.

We have idiots near us feeding deer, who don't need anyone's help reproducing.

I know from experience that cutting back trees and limbs around your house will deter squirrels from your house.

Well, honestly I’d rather have a squirrel problem than no trees.

It will bring the rats if it hasn’t already. Call the county asap.

OP,

I can sympathize. Our elderly neighbors have been feeding birds and squirrels since we moved into our home in 2007. We’ve had so many squirrel infestations. DH has gotten rid of at least 20 over the last 16.5 yrs. I even saw rats in her backyard eating the nuts and bird seeds. Never told her to stop but she did shudder in horror once when I mentioned in oasssing how we had to rid ourselves of some squirrels who had been in our attic. Btw my boss had his house catch fire from squirrels chewing through wires. Squirrels are literally f@ing rodents with long tails. Unlike the cartoons they are huge huge pests on homes.

I like this old lady and am at a loss on how to approach her to ask her to stop. It is one of the highlights of her day I imagine.

Can anyone think of a good way to approach this situation?

All is fine and good till you hear screams from the lady being carried off by squirrels in the middle of the night.

To worship her as the peanut manna goddess.

Trap the squirrels and drown them in your utility sink.

Squirrels breed whether someone feeds them or not. They should not be fed. Around here they look plump and I see seed left out.

All you dogging out the OP, we had a neighbor doing that and it brought rats.
