I don’t know what world some of you live in. But none of my friends’ kids or my kids would be happy about getting bad grades. They all care deeply about getting good grades and they do.

That is the problem with TikTok and it’s algorithm who put you in an echo chamber of videos, repeating the same thing over and over again basically brainwashing you to think that’s the right thing and the cool thing and the normal thing. Delete that sht after your kids phones.

You said you didn’t like getting good grades - did you mean you didn’t like getting bad grades?

If you meant you didn’t like getting good grades for some some reason, then DC is just doing the same.

I think there are (& have always been) cultures of both camps. Kids who wanted good grades & were upset when they didn’t get an A, & kids who thought it looked lame to care about grades & thought bad grades made them look cool.

My kids went to Wootton. Everyone wanted Good grades. So it may be just a local thing for you.

My kids don’t get their values from tiktok.

But more to the point: OP you need to step up and be a parent. I can’t even fathom being in this situation… kid failing, and your response is half “woe is me, social media is so bad” and half sort of giggling about it. Not to mention that among good kids, popular kids, studious kids, athletes, and most other “groups”, doing well in school is viewed on balance as a positive.

IME it is a very fringe group of HSers who are so withdrawn and (frankly) troubled that they need to feign that kind of aloofness and happiness at failing. It’s sad, and it’s a defense mechanism. Help your kid.
