I’m the OP.

Not a joke. People referenced “rush consultants” in the UVA post so I thought to ask. Sheesh.

And then someone bumped up another thread.

Food for thought here though. Appreciate the thoughtful constructive responses.

I kinda thing that was the point of this thread though.

No one in DCUM really believes this would be the forum to post something like that and not get flamed, right?

Omg this is too much.

And that’s saying a lot because I posted like 60% of the explanatory posts on the UVA rush thread. I find the study and statistics of the process endlessly fascinating and my kids are still 8 years+ from college.

But a “rush consultant” to engineer the outcome just seems a step too desperate somehow.

I feel that way about college and essay consultants too though and I realize that I’m oddly in the minority on that as well.

Ok I know it sounds crazy, but if your kid ends even a school like Michigan or other Big 10/SEC schools, AND you do vacation in the right spots/go to private school/have a somewhat fancy life make sure they have “some” social media presence showing their “lifestyle”…esp if kids /you are more low key….and if your family name isn’t googleable…

Our kids are super low key - bc we’ve taught them to be and not post anything showcasing our life; but that’s not helpful for rush…..for Rush it’s important to have some of this stuff on social media (save as destinations to stories section on IG)….start early in high school…

Sadly, it's true. My kids in HS and MS judge other people their age based on their Instagram accounts and number of followers. It apparently looks bad if you follow more people than the number of people who follow you. I'm not saying I agree with it but this is the reality.


Yep, this is the kind of dumbed down society we live in. There is often an inverse relationship between number of followers and IQ.

Preparing social media in HS to show you went on cool enough trips? I'm sorry - that's sad.


But is true. And kids check out others instas to get roommate matched - so kids curate the versions of themselves for that as well.

It is not that different than padding resumes with ECs and bogus awards to get in to the 'right' universities. Truth be told the quality of secondary education is not that different among the top 100ish schools (because the education is what the kids make of it) but parents convince themselves there is a big difference when really it is name value/branding/connections which is not really different than rush and greek life when it comes down to it.


And that’s sad too.
