Also $75 application fee is cheaper than spending hundreds visiting many of these schools prior to applying and then they don’t get in. We visited DCs top choices once they are admitted And would do it again this way.

He got accepted to 7 schools by November? So why keep applying to more and more schools? It's a waste of everyone's time and your money. Did he not like any of the 1st SEVEN schools he got into? You're part of what is causing the bloodbath.
Because he applied to a mix of safeties, targets, and reaches. And because HE CAN! It’s his time and our money, so why are you so bothered? Simply answering a question asked isn’t creating a frenzy. Sorry that this has caused you to meltdown maybe you should not read these posts. And if you’re reading comprehension skills for good, you would have read that he feels good with his acceptances so far but he’s waiting on other results. Cry about it.

He was always going to be around 6-8. If he had gotten into the EA--he would have stopped. He ended up doing 9 over break for a total of 17 which seems crazy to us. But, I'm hearing it's norm for kids with his stats (UW 4.0, high scores, etc)
same in our house - a defer from what was expected to be an admit (coach support + scores & GPA >50%) + ED rejection means went from 8 to 15 over the break... friends at top tier NE boarding school are talking 25
Didn’t they do a “pre-read” for him/her?!?!! They usually do that first before kid commits.

All apps were completed by November 1. Had 4 acceptances with great merit in August- September. 3 more in acceptances in October. One in December. 3 deferrals and waiting on 9 more. Friends who only applied to 5 or less got clobbered and were panic applying over break. He feels really good about his current choices come what may for the others.

Your kids can only go to one school, folks...so they only need to get into ONE school. They need to focus, pick matches and safeties well, and really like those safeties. Aim for 5-10 schools that you genuinely like. This panic of applying to 15+ schools is a big part of what is making it so hard now to get into schools that a kid could have easily gotten into a few years ago. Don't keep feeding the admissions madness.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:DD just finished tonight. She applied to 20 and was going to add another one but we told her to Stop! The deferral makes them doubt themselves and they over compensate by over applying. It is so terribly stressful for these kids. Purely anecdotal but many high stats unhooked kids were shut out of ED/EA. The kids who got in had lower stats but were multi-legacy, money, or sports. This really pushes the rejects to apply to many more schools. ED2 and RD will be interesting.
Yes. 💯
This has happened.

DCUM crowd and application fee waivers? Nah.
This and - Unless you can afford it, I don't see the point of applying for that many schools.
Most schools are not worth full pay or taking a loan. Flagship as OOS is not only expensive but also not easy to get in.
