I'm the PP who mentioned getting a dress at Macy's the other day. It was at Tysons, and yeah, it was a mess in there. I feel like I could have more patience for it if I knew there was going to be stuff in there that I want, but that's just not likely anymore.

58F. I'm an easy "fit" which I'm grateful for.

Typically online from Talbots and Brooks Brothers because I know their sizing. That minimizes returns, which I do at the stores. Last month I took a chance on Quince for a couple of washable silk shirts and the sizing worked out, as did a skirt from Amazon.

For shoes, I have narrow heels and have found AGL flats work. I get those from Poshmark or the Real Real.

Primark was the bottom of the barrel when I lived in the UK. So much worse than what you can get at Target. On par with the worst quality items at Old Navy.

I look at measurements - and also tend to only buy clothes from brands where I know more or less how they fit me, or things that I want enough to take the risk.

On eBay I search out sellers who accept returns, if it's for something where I don't feel super confident that it'll fit.

None of the Macy’s here are organized and it drives me nuts. However if you’re traveling and you have a minute, I’ve noticed Macy’s not in this area is better. I have family in Columbus and have shopped at the Macys in Polaris Mall and it’s generally pleasant for adult clothes. Kids not so much. If you go south or into the Midwest, Dillards is also quite nice in stores.

Returning to TRR is like returning anywhere else, it just costs $12 shipping. They will take anything back except for final sale items and handbags. I tend to order brands I already know and sometimes take chances on other items. In that case, I will order a bunch at once since shipping to/from is at a flat rate. Poshmark/Mercari/eBay are totally different - you're dealing with individual sellers and their policies. I don't often buy from those for that reason.

I'm plus sized so I don't have a lot of choices. So I have a lot of Anthro, JCrew, Athleta, and PINK for lounge. Had a nightmare of a time finding a dress to wear out to a NYE party tonight, finally found something I don't love at Macy's that would work.
