Learn to read before posting. This has nothing to do with Barbara Comstock. And at least spell her name right
+1. And learn not to believe anything in The Patch.

The company Comstock is no relation to the failed politician Comstock.
This is correct. Comstock, the developers, have hired lobbyists and it’s become a political fight to get this casino in place. The locals do not want it.
Yes, and where there are lobbyists there is money. People don’t want it but once you get a few elected officials on board it becomes reality. The one drawback of representative government is you just have to “buy” a few people to get the job done.
We will vote them out. See pp about the track record of VA voters keeping riff-raff (Disney, etc) out of the area.
If we had Disney America, there wouldn't be a need for a casino.
There is not a "need" for a casino now. Portsmouth VA has one, because they actually need the money. National Harbor has one because DC actually needs the money.
Everyone says NoVa is booming, but needing a casino tells me they are lying and it's actually going downhill.
NoVa needs to diversify. It can't remain beholden to the military and federal government. Again, I will point to what BRAC did to Arlington. HQ2 bailed them out to some extent but they are now beholden to the whims of Bezos.
So all that IT industry in NoVa is worthless and you have to have a casino to supplement them?
No one in Reston wants a casino dragging their property values down and attracting gamblers and crime to the area. Which is what casinos do. That's why casinos are in. Baltimore and National Harbor.
Now if you want to put a casino in Woodbridge or Dale City that would make sense.

Now this seems plausible for at least part of the reason for the push. That and maybe NOVA isn’t as flush as some would have us believe.

A $285 million shortfall is predicted. Why do you think FFX didn't cave to WMATA's demand for more funding? It isn't there. That's also why I expect to see a meal tax pass this year. That's a diversification of the taxes but not the sources of tax monies.
