+1000 double standard

There is no double-standard.

The voting age in local elections has long been 16.

This is just false. Nobody under the age of 18 has ever voted in a city election in DC. It has happened in a few local municipalities. But it is vanishingly rare, and recent nationwide.

This is not false at all. What YOU claim is false, PP. why are you lying?? (MAGA maybe?).

PP here.

Can you point me to something showing that anyone under the age 0f 18 has ever voted in DC?
No state and less than 25 cities confined to three states allow voting under the age of 18.

Listen, I am on the fence about lowering the voting age in local elections. I'm not arguing for or against it.
I am disputing the inaccurate statement that "the voting age in local elections has long been 16." This is not true, at least in general elections.

Still waiting on an answer to the bolded.

And I think we should be clear that NOWHERE has anyone under the age of 18 voted in federal elections.

I wouldn’t deny anyone the right to vote but I think there should be weighing of votes. A person with a high school or equivalent education, trade school, or a two year associate degree vote is weighted as 1. A person with simply a bachelors degree has their vote weighted as a 1.5. A person with a masters degree receives the equivalent of 2 votes. Those with a doctorate level education cap out at a 2.5.
In this fashion people with demonstrated intelligence are rightly rewarded in determining the government and the trajectory of society.

This. There is a general shortage of sensible voters among all age groups, but teens don't yet have any idea which end they're wiping.

Voting age should be 25-80. If we limited the vote to people who have mature reasoning skills but haven't yet lost their critical faculties, we would return to more sensible, moderate politics without the extremes plaguing us on both sides.

The older folks bother me more than the young ones.

If an 80+ year old can hold public office, they can vote.

If you're legally able to work and pay taxes, then you should be legally able to vote.

80 Is a more reasonable stopping age. 20 to 80.

They can in DC, if they have been here longer than 30 days.
Democrats hate foreign interference with US government, unless it benefits them.

Considering the demographics of high school dropouts and graduation rates, this may not turn out how you are imagining.

If they aren't going to pay public taxes, they don't need to use public services, like roads or healthcare. I fully support this plan.

Anonymous wrote:18 is fine. I'm also okay with 16-year-olds voting in local municipal elections only since they are directly affected by decisions about schools, so there's that. But that's all.

There are some people on the right who want to raise the age to 25 or even 30, arguing something about prefrontal cortex development and having skin in the game as far as contributing to society. By their logic, we should also cap the voting age at 75, so people losing their mental faculties due to advanced age shouldn't vote either. But right wingers don't argue that for some reason.

I say leave it as it is, but since minors under 18 can't vote, they shouldn't have to pay income taxes. Let them keep their summer gig earnings for chrissakes.

Clearly discriminatory. Cats and dogs over 14 should be able to vote to. Their lives are impacted by us.

Shouldn’t they have some say in their own lives?

*chortle*

You’re joking, right? Just because you can use Google doesn’t make you better informed.

I am relatively sure most teens get their information from TikTok.
