It doesn’t have to be all or nothing either. We start in the same bed most nights, but we are both light sleepers and both have a bad habit of laying in bed stressing about things beyond our control. So when we wake up and can’t sleep, we start getting really self-conscious that we’re going to wake the other person. Sometimes it’s just easier at that point to slip off on our own until we drift off again.

Since 25 years in with two teen kids in a small house means we are likely not going to have sex at 3 am anyway I don’t see it getting in the way of that. When were 23 and childless? Yea those 3 am wake ups happened and were fun…..ah to be young.

My husband sleeps in the guest room. He snores and I'm a light sleeper who tends to wake up in the middle of the night. This works really well for us. Our marriage is happy and we both get sleep!

We absolutely LOVE having separate beds. Several good friends do the same. Our spouses snore. I toss and turn. We enjoy time together then sleep apart. We absolutely snuggle on the couch, in one of our beds, etc. As we're both, typically, getting good sleep it's great for both of us.

Love having separate beds. My husband flops around and snores LOUDLY. You all must have quiet soundly sleeping spouses or you would want a separate bed too

Having separate bedrooms or even separate homes doesn't preclude that. You just choose when and where to do that, and it isn't necessarily every night. Most people that choose to do this in their marriage have children that are grown and out of the house already.

Yeah, it’s called maternity leave. But like I said, she owns a wine company that she markets, and is very involved in, and now she has returned to acting. That was my only point.
