"Beautiful" would not be the word that comes to my mind, though my time there was in the 90s. Multicultural, Little Italy, University Circle, Cleveland Clinic, Art Museum, Cinematheque, Rockefeller Park, Cultural Gardens all come to mind. It is (or was, I'm assuming it still is) in what I would call an urban area.I liked Cleveland and the area around Case, though the winter can be unforgiving.
The area around the art museum is very pretty. Many times you see engagement or wedding photos being taken.

I did my undergrad at UMD and MS at CWRU both in EE. The experiences were different. U MD had more research money, but CWRU had better opportunities to be involved and get hands on experience, smaller classes, much more flexibility in what you able to study, and it was a more interesting immediate neighborhood. A lot of research in any Eng specialty at CWRU is BME related because of the relationships with surrounding hospitals. As I have interviewed for jobs over the years, both schools are equally viewed in the field. I wouldn't say one was "better" than the other. It is about what they have that works for you, not what USWNR decides. That really goes for most schools.

He has made an incredible group of friends. There is a good international mix, and he is being exposed to many cultures he didn't have experience with before and enjoys that. He classes are quite good and challenging (mostly CS, engineering and business). His classmates seem to study during the week and relax on weekends. There is plenty of informal gatherings during the week as well, lots of clubs, club sports, theater, going out to eat in the city. He hasn't said much about school spirit, but has gone to cheer on some friends playing soccer. The women's team is quite good. Kids we have met seem proud of the school, challenged and very happy.
But I would say if you are look for D1 football, 20,000 screaming fans, and a massive Greek culture ruling the roost, you will not find that at CWRU.
PP, are you from DC? I am asking because of your comment about exposure to different cultures.

DC was premed for 4 years at CASE. Had a blast. Lot of socializing, especially over the weekend. Had a large nice set of friends. DC is in top med school now and looks fondly at the time spent in CASE.

What kind of steps?
You had to check in every week to stay on the list.
Would you mind elaborating on this? Check in- how? Just an email saying you’re still interested? Or more than that?
Once you accept a place on the WL, Case requires you to checkin each week to say you are still interested. They are yield managing....they want to offer places to students who will actually accept. It's really simple.

For those deferred today, can you share stats?
Case tells you "if you switch to ED2, this would be your merit offer". They are straightforward about it. So if you really want to attend, you can switch. Their goal is to manage their yield and that means offering acceptances to students who will actually attend.

Waitlisted after deferred?! that is tough! Please share your kid's stats if possible and where is he/she now? We will need to redo our college list with this unexpected deferral.
It was annoying but all fine since would not have ended up going after other choices unfolded. At Maryland/College Park for CS. Never considered it a "safety" but Naviance was a sea of green. Stats: 4.0 UW/4.8 W/35 ACT/12 APs/varsity athlete/clubs/internships. Never visited or showed any interest and last year they had optional interviews that were always full too. Constant emails to switch to ED and a scholarship offer with no admission were a major turn off.
Case has a "yield problem". With stats like that especially, you have to show interest and convince them you will be attending. They know you considered them a safety---and their goal is to admit students who will attend.

Absolutely not. The Cleveland Botanical gardens, symphony, natural history museum are all there. It is next to little Italy, on the metro line, and nestled between major hospital centers. The surrounding neighborhood of Cleveland Heights looks like AU Park DC or Newton MA.
Cleveland is a city so there are certainly very down-trodden areas (have you been to DC?), but good lord, drive through it or even look on google maps.
I went to Case and it isn't in the ghetto at all--as this person mentioned it's in what could be considered the museum district.
I had a great time exploring Cleveland during my time at Case. The restaurants are great--better than DC or Baltimore (where I went to graduate school after Case). The restaurants and cultural scene are supported by the large university and medical communities. Between Case and the Cleveland Clinic (and the other hospitals) there are about a million doctors running around town.
