I picked up a “pearl” necklace because I liked the coloring of the pearls and the unique clasp. An aunt took a look at it and thought them better than just of the costume variety but I didn’t pursue it. Fast forward a few years, and when it came time to pull my wedding ensemble together, I went to our regular jeweler to get them restrung and was shocked when I picked them up to get a full appraisal with an eye-opening amount (I hadn’t even asked for one….lol…just the nominal/reasonable restring fee.). A second opinion (from a different shop) came back even higher.
Needless to say, that strand gets locked in a safe. And, while I’m not much of a pearl “type,” I do try to find occasions to wear them….if nothing else to remind me of our glorious wedding day. 🥰
How can you tell this story and leave out the eye-opening amount???
LOL....because eye-opening to me is probably way below what it might be to thee; I'm not in NoVA and grew up, well, going to yard sales for clothes and household items. But I'll dish and go with the lower amount of $2200 (and that was decades ago). Not a bad ROI for a $1 purchase. Regardless, it's more about the sentiment than the value. Every time I look at our wedding photos, I'm reminded you can find things....and people (like my DH) that are the
real deal.
Thanks, though. It's a fun and true story to tell. And, yes, I'll try to find way to let the girls breathe.
