Anonymous wrote:Definitely visit the schools. Northeastern has a more campus while being in the center of Boston. BU's campus is a linear version of GWU, but you have the Charles river as a defined endpoint . BC is in the suburbs.
Northeastern is better "known" for CS, and their CO-OP program is strong, but all three schools will give you a great education and career result PROVIDED you put the work in.

The rest of the world, like China, India, Korea, Japan, UK, Germany value a US education. Especially in STEM areas.
And Boston is their Mecca, with UC's their Al Aqsa. So schools like BU and Northeastern will be around for a long, long time.
Haha. Everyone wants Harvard and MIT. But Northeastern? It's dropping back to reality. The illusion of the commuter college climbing the rankings with no endowment and a five-year plan for everyone is over.
I don't think you are familiar with the sbject at all and stuck in the 70s. BU has been very popular to international students. NU's popularity has been rising rapidly as well. In fact a complaint is that they allocate too many seats for international students.
It seems the PPs/OP complaining and have inaccurate information about NU, have kids at other current commuter schools, perhaps. Best to not let your DC know how you really feel.
NU has been popular with students across the globe since at least the 70's-80's, but OP Troll would never admit that, nor have occasion or experience to know. NU has traditionally been known for their engineering (since the 50's, if not before), and since (at least) the 80's, computer science. It has strong respect in the nerd arena, across the board. IYKYK. BU has traditionally been known for their communications major, and BC was/is more of an LAC, traditionally.
BC also likes their athletes (swim and soccer, especially - so that is promising with those who have DC athletes). Alternatively, NU has eliminated their entire football team, not so long ago. Just adding some truths, so that parents will be better informed on this board, instead of mislead by those with a chip on their shoulder.
Good luck to the parents who are waiting to hear good news on behalf of their applicant DC. May you find reliable sources to guide their way.

Anonymous wrote:We couldn't apply early decision 1 because of a job change. Now that that's taken care of, DS is going to apply ED2 to one of BU, NEU or BC. Wants to do a comp sci major. The usual stats...3.85UW, 4.3 weighted. Good, not great, EC's. One LOR should be really good, the other normal good. Took the sat 4 times, so composite score of 1530, 780 Math, 750 Reading.
Really wants to go to school in Boston. His guidance counselor told him based on the students that MIT takes out of his high school, don't even bother applying.
Not really expecting any aid based on the NPC.

What do you mean why? Location is one of the important factors for many people if you didn't know.
Also, Northeastern is close to great for CS and engineering.
It was the first university that stood up separate whole college of computer science in the 80s.
Ranked #12 on https://csrankings.org/
Gets huge respect from the industry

Northeastern for CS
+1. No doubt.
I kind of hate the Northeastern experience. I think your kid would really have to love the moving around and internships, etc. I have a niece who loved it and my kid absolutely not interested. Even though BU and BC are very different, my kid has them both on his list.
Boston campus of Northeastern doesn’t really matter because it’s unlikely that’s where kid will spend most of his time.
With that philosophy, no college campus matters.
A candidate that qualifies for NU admission will spend minimum 3 years, and maximum 4 years on the Boston campus.
Please stop with the misinformation.
My niece graduated from Northeastern. She was away from Boston more than "on campus." It was great for because she really loved to travel and is a bit of a loner anyway - it's not for everyone. Stop being so ignorant.
