Let us know. It could be they are only processing admitted students. Or maybe there will be a lag. My DC’s Ed1 slac last week provided the award with the decision. But that might be more difficult for a larger Ed pool like UVA. Is this a larger school?

I don’t think ED is actually suggested for those who need significant FA. You would want options open I should think.
This is not true.
ED is for everyone if it is your 1st choice school.
For those who need aid, you do the school estimator. You call the school and talk to see if they can give you an estimate. 3 schools my DS was looking at this year reached out and offered a pre-admit aid estimate. (Not an official name but you get the idea).
However if you want to merit aid shop to compare multiple packages - not just if your 1st choice school will come in to what they estimated - ED is not the right choice.

Maybe options are beneficial but maybe the ED school gives reasonable aid. And the agreement specifically contemplates that you can apply ED and FA. So I see no problem with a student doing just that.
What do you mean by "significant FA"? Many schools cost $60-80K which is hard for most families to pay for in full. Applying for aid even if you expect to get a fraction of the total could make sense to knock the number down an appropriate amount. ED does not require you to forgo a FA application.

And further to what I posted immediately above . . .
The ED Agreement itself specifically states that "If the student is an early decision candidate and is seeking financial aid, the student need not withdraw other applications until the student has received notification about financial aid from the admitting early decision institution."
It appears there could be some lag between when schools provide ED decisions and FA decisions and so some lag between when a student learns of the ED decision and when they are obligated to withdraw other applications.

Well that’s probably a private school and your counselor is trying to help her other students get acceptances. There is no need to withdraw immediately.
Once you put down your deposit shouldn’t you morally withdraw all others that same day

DS spent 5 minutes and doesn’t see where to withdraw apps so he’s done trying. He probably hasn’t set up the portals. Don’t worry, he’s not taking anyone’s financial aid.

Lots of schools have. Most SLACs, BC, Tulane, Wake Forest, SMU, etc etc

In a few months, this will be the kid who misses a lot of important stuff. Knowing how to navigate a portal/student account or write an email is super basic.
If they give up on administrative tasks after five minutes, registration will crush them.
Start preparing them to be a little more persistent and not give up on things.
