My STEM kid's HS has a program with integrated chemistry and physics beginning soph year. So:

10th: Chem & Phys H
11th: AP Chem & Phys (take 1 ap exam: Phys C: Mechanics)
12th: AP Chem & Phys (take 2 ap exams: Chem and Phys C: E&M)

DS, who is headed to a SLAC to study Psych or probably some other social science:
11th Grade -- AP Environmental
12th Grade -- Accelerated (not AP) Physics

DD, who is in 10th grade now and likely will major in science in college.
10th through 12th -- Science research seminar
11th -- Probably AP Chem
12th -- Probably AP Bio

Took Honors Chem in 9th, AP Physics 1 and Honors Bio in 10th.

Freshman: honors biology
Sophomore: chemistry, human anat and phys (no honors offered in either)
Junior: AP Biology
Senior: APES

kid 1, currently an ecology/environmental science major:
Jr year - AP Environmental Science (this is where she fell in love with environmental science)
Sr. year - Marine ecology honors and astronomy honors (two different classes)

kid 2 (will be a humanities major of some kind)
Jr year - Chemistry Honors
Sr year - I'm not sure, he recently announced his plan not to take any science but I'd like him to take one, so that's currently up for negotiation.

W&M.

Got into higher ranked Michigan, CMU, UNC, UVA.

Currently happy sophomore working in one research lab and the greenhouse for another lab.
In the end decided it was the environment and size they truly wanted.

Jesus Christ. What ever happened to chasing chicks and being a teenager?


Some of this doesn’t fit as magnet physics is a 9th grade class but this is clearly a Blair SMCS kid as no other schools offer marine biology and being a Blair magnet kid means all homework all the time in high school.

One science per year is all anyone expects. My CS student took AP Bio and AP Physics C (after honors chem and physics). It would have been possible to swap electives for more sciences, but he had another area of interest as well, and took elective in that area.

My DS (humanities major) took Honors Bio and AP Environmental (he had honors physics and honors chem prior).

My DD is a HS Senior. She had Honors Physics in 11th and is in IB Biology in 12th. Not interested in majoring in STEM.
