Read the article. The rabbi that asked said they would have been ok with simple 'no'.
Instead the event organizer said they could have it if they had an Islamic display (what that would be is anyone's guess) or light the menorah under a "Cease Fire" banner.
Than the organizer claimed she had 'no idea' about a war raging and just 'thought it was a good idea'.
They shouldn't be forced to have it, but for pete's sake, own that the response was political and demanded that the rabbi take sides.

It’s not like Hanukkah is a significant holiday for Jews, though

Um - wut? It’s not Yom Kippur or Rosh Hashanah, but of course it’s significant, you utter dope.

Why is Youngkin, the face of VA government, trying to FORCE people to add religion to this event?

I get that Republicans hate our country but why such a blatant attack on the 1st amendment?

Spoken like a true LWNJ. He isn’t forcing anyone to do anything. He is simply stating that now is a perfect time to show support to the Jewish community. And if you’ll notice, several VA Democrats supported this too.

Why would voters who are attracted to the likes of Trump ever vote for someone as bland as Youngkin? Your parents' and grandparents' GOP is dead. Today's GOP likes to be entertained by their leaders--they want someone who talks tough, openly displays their racism/sexism/ableism etc.(called being "authentic"), is crass, and comes with a side of authoritarianism. Youngkin is not cut from this mold.

DP. You certainly don’t know many Republicans if you actually believe this nonsense.

And Youngkin has been absolutely incompetent in running the state - faulty budget tools, delayed budget… the only thing he has focused on is public appearances (usually in other states or on conservative media) and calling people out on social media. I wish he would just do the executive job he was hired for.

Sure, whatever you say. Plenty of us think Youngkin has been doing a great job - with no more or less “hiccups” than his predecessor.

Absolutely taking sides. Idiots.

lol. Too bad he got spanked in last month’s election.

Hows that? He wasn't on the ballot!

His hand-and-money backed candidates were, as was his dumb “compromise” on abortion. He staked his political future on the race and lost. Bigly.

So you're stating that Youngkin is now toast? Lets see you promise that.

Youngkin's political career is toast, yes.

Best he can hope for is some cabinet official after 2028, if a Republican wins.

But he's not going to be able to beat Warner or Kaine in the Senate. He can't run for governor again. He blew his political capital on an election that was supposed to jumpstart his presidential ambitions but fell flat on his face.

No one takes him seriously.

If you want a menorah lighting plan your own. Don't try to force this event to have a religious display.

Yes it is. It’s not the most religiously significant but it is celebrated by most American Jewish families with a lot of fondness for the younger kids especially.

Who is "Aviva Klompas" and why don't they know how to correctly transliterate the name of the holiday into English?
