It depends on development. I have a 5th grader and my friends and I are starting to talk about this sort of thing - she has one friend who needs an actual bra and one or two that wear camis/half camis, the rest don't need anything yet.
My daughter is in 6th. A few started in third, most in 4th and by 5th, pretty much everyone was wearing one regardless of level of development. Some of her friends still literally have zero development but they all wear bras.
Bras started in 5th last year here. Camisole for my kid at 10.

My DD does not have anything going on yet but she has friends who do and most of them wear camisoles. She asks to wear camisoles too.
That is ridiculous… not well supported? No—it is friction from fabric. Camisole undershirts. This is not a support issue.

Trial and error. At 8, I wouldn’t even bother with anything, especially if she doesn’t want to wear something. Try again around 10 with a couple different brands of camisoles or cotton training bras. Hanna Anderson has nice camisoles and yellowberry for bras.

Most camisoles are very soft cotton. Try Bleuet or Yellowberry - both of them are great for my daughter who has similar sensory issues.

You're quoting me - I have the feeling it's very dependent on the handful of queen bees in the kids grade/class

Any advice for a little girl with sensory sensitivity to fabrics? I'm a dad with zero knowledge on this subject but my 8 y.o. is developing buds and she has real struggles with the way certain things fit. She really can't stand things that aren't soft or are too restrictive and, with my limited personal experience, it seems that would include all of these camis/sports bras/training bras, etc.
