And my fave, The Strokes.

So underrated. I recently said to a group of other mid-40s guys with similar musical taste that the Strokes saved rock n roll and they all kind of scoffed at me.

But bands like the Strokes and The White Stripes had to bring it back to the fuzzy garage sound to get away from the horrible rock scene that was 97-02. It had to get away from the Korn/Limp Bizcuit non-sense and bring it back to just a few musicians in a room making loud noises

U2 isn’t American.
But RHCP are and they are amazing live.
GVF are also excellent live (3/4 are brothers) and I love that they sound like LZ. Rock on!

Agree, especially Wilco. I'll add SUMAC for metal and Marcus King for more of a ballad/70s style rock.

Dr. Dog really is one of the best IMO. Very well-rounded and appeal widely. Beautiful but easy to hear and understand lyricism, catchy hooks and melodies, amazing live performers (it’s a true experience) and genuinely good people. I’m not a great critic or connoisseur but they’re easy and fun to listen to and I’ve never introduced someone to them and they didn’t enjoy their music. I have heard they are kind of divisive in the people who really know music community so maybe I’m wrong and they’re just a forgettable guitar band and I have basic tastes. I just do think in today’s saturated internet and streaming music environment they don’t get the recognition and aren’t a household name they would have been 30 years ago, but I highly encourage anyone who hasn’t to check them out.
