Things you can do safely in DC:

Drive a 20 year old Toyota (like me)

Wear a lands end coat and have it not stolen (like me)

Use an android phone in public and no one even looks twice at it (like me)

Walk a mutt from the local shelter.

If you aren't styling and profiling, you have a much lower risk of getting robbed.

I don’t get it. We have the best gun laws and bodily autonomy. We have social programs to help people. DC should not be like this.

Why are we facing these issues you don’t see in modern societies elsewhere like the Netherlands?

Should change license plate motto from:

No taxation without representation

To:

Welcome to America’s Fallujah

I cannot imagine having this much anxiety over something that is unlikely to happen.

In any major metropolitan city in the world [London, Brussels, Madrid, Sao Paulo] you can be mugged. DC is not unique in that.

If you are tired of these threads why are you on here commenting? There are lots of reasons people can’t easily move. Stop reading these threads if you ‘cannot imagine being concerned about kids being kidnapped for their phones.

Thanks for your input, Brianne, but the statistics don’t lie. Other cities aren’t experiencing a crime surge like we are.

I felt beyond safe in Europe this summer. What we accept in the US is gross.

Police are looking for two armed teens who are possibly targeting school kids in robberies with KIDNAPPING. One took place this morning near Coolidge (5th St and Underwood St NW DC) and Roosevelt yesterday morning.

Having any apps linked to $ on phone is risky now, including bank accounts, Uber, Venmo, etc.

These crimes can't be tolerated, but they sure as hell can be enabled.

We live in that general neighborhood and it has certainly been tolerated. Violent crime around Coolidge, Wells and Whittier is too regular an occurance. I’m not voting for Janeese next election.

I do too. I was paraphrasing JLG, who has suddenly decided that she cares about crime now that she is facing a well-funded primary challenge.

I was just told by someone here I am stupid for driving an old car no one would want to carjack.

NP and part of why I don’t want a new car is I don’t want to attract attention. My car looks like sh**.

Good question. I guess you can ask Ivanka, Eric, and Don Jr and their assorted partners and many children.

Pay under $3,500/mon for a 1-bedroom.

Omg. When I saw French bulldogs were being stolen at gunpoint, I wondered if kids would be next.

I guess so.
