For us, the Bass and Rankin films are must see every year. We have them on DVD and it doesn't feel like Christmas until we've watched:
Santa Claus is Coming to Town
Rudoph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Frosty the Snowman

For the non-kiddie movies, these are some of our favorites (they have already been mentioned)
Miracle on 34th Street
Home Alone

I'm going to introduce my kids to The Santa Clause (the Tim Allen movie) this year.

Same! That irritated me so much, especially since her "happy ending" was conforming to the kind of person they wanted her to be. Maybe a gay person can set me straight on that though.

As for me, my favorite holiday movie is The Holiday, followed by kids movies like the grinch.



The thing is, the family was talking about her behind her back and they didn't like her even before her gay comment. And all she had done before the gay comment was be a reserved introvert who was shy around 15 new people.


She was more of a self-absorbed snob than a shy introvert and she was meant to be very unlikeable. Yes, the family was judgmental and terrible too but that was the point of the movie--they were all a bit dysfunctional but they're family. That's why I love the movie--it shows the bad and good parts of each person in the movie and how, in the end, they all love one another, despite the fact they aren't perfect.

I have to watch Home Alone and Home Alone 2 every year. Mostly to marvel at the McCallisters' house with those special early 90s touches, like dark green velvet drapes, and wonder what their mortgage payment would be today.

Question: does anybody else get irritated by The Polar Express because it's like the kid is getting manipulated into believing in Santa? I just want to tell tom hanks to leave that poor kid alone.

Me too. I remember it came out shortly after Sex and the City Ended and I was missing SJP so I couldn't wait to see her again. Movie was so cold and depressing. It held my attention; I'll give it that. But when I read it here, I sort of recoiled. Would not recommend.

Holiday fave for us.

Trading Places - Probably my fave holiday movie ever - it is a hilarious exploration of nature versus nurture and capitalism.
Eddie Murphy was only 21 when he starred in this satirical masterpiece …
