PP here, I was in an executive team and they weren’t helpful to us a lot of times either. We’d come to them with a problem, after several preliminary steps had been taken and they’d start at the beginning: “have you tried simple first step example?” Or they talked tough but would back down, or they really didn’t know what they were talking about. I worked with three great ones who were super helpful, but they were often just as frustrating for us.

Why anyone would let these HR flunkies lord over them or their company is anyone’s guess. And they are flunkies. 9 out of 10 HR people are useless. The takeover of HR is here.

Our HR department is pretty terrible but our HR partner is great and I’ve had some really good ones in the past. Like with everything at work…proceed with caution.

I refuse to deal with them outside of mandatory forms, etc. I never speak to them unless 100% necessary.

My wife has served for many years as a Federal agency mid level manager. The unwritten rule is “Avoid HR at all costs.”
