Do comic strips count? Calvin and Hobbes and The Far Side still make me crack up after all these years. I have all the volumes and re-read them whenever I need a good laugh.

I love this thread. I just thought of another one, since a PP mentioned kids’ books: Skinnybones by Barbara Park. I loved it as a kid and I read it to my own kids and we all laughed until we cried.

The daniel pinkwater books for kids are hysterical so I’ve been meaning to read one of his adult books.

Agree on David Sedaris and Bridget jones and surprisingly James Herriot if you like that sort of sweet old British stories about quirky people.

The Tina Fey memoir Bossy Pants was really funny.

Sadly most adult fiction writers seem to think that humor is below them.

Skipping Christmas by John Grisham. At one point I had to set the book down and run to the bathroom before I peed my pants because I was laughing so hard.

In one of the Stephanie Plum books, Stephanie has decided she is mad at someone and wants to get revenge. She decides that what she wants to do to get revenge is put dog poop in a paper bag, put the bag on the person's front porch, and then set the bag on fire. However, she doesn't have a dog so she goes to the dog park to get some dog poop. There is a woman there walking her dog and carrying a ziplock bag full of dog poop. Stephanie asks her for the dog poop and the woman won't give it to her. The woman says she "needs it", then runs off with her dog and the bag.
I have been giggling about that bit from the book for years.

I like the wimpy kid books and laugh out loud when I read them. Yes I am a grown up and they are kid books, but I find them hilarious so I read them.

A book I read long ago that I found hilarious was called, "Murphy must have been a mother." It came out in 1982 and the only versions of the book are on paper. It is about a woman with 10 kids. Lots of stories about the goofy things the kids do. One story I remember from that book was that the mom got sick of making school lunches for the kids everyday. So she decided to make a whole school year's worth of sandwiches and freeze them in the deep freezer. But then the deep freezer broke a few months later.

While I wouldn’t generally describe James Herriot as a humorous writer, one of the funniest things I’ve ever read is the short story that makes up chapter 26 of his book The Lord God Made Them All. James Herriot writes stories of a country vet and this chapter relates the misadventures of one unfortunate bull while the vet was trying to obtain a sample in accordance with the new technology of artificial insemination.

If you like David Sedaris, Jennifer Lawson's "Lets Pretend this Never Happened" is a must read. I cried from laughing so hard. The only other time I've done that was reading Me Talk Pretty One Day.
