You want a strong BOE? Change state law to weaken the current strong superintendent rules that enable McKnight to elude accountability.

Tell us more about this- which state laws need to be changed/removed? Let’s advocate

I would like to see this changed too, and I suspect that members of the county council and the county exec might support changes to enable power-sharing at the school district level.

I personally think we should advocate around the statute with hiring/firing info: https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ged§ion=4-201&enactments=False&archived=False

For instructional positions:

Table 5 matches the data in Tables 6 and 7. However, when I added up Tables 5a (elementary), 5b (middle), 5c (secondary); those totals did not add up to the numbers in Table 5. The specific differences were:

336.10 Teachers
253.10 Therapists
0.00 Librarians
8.00 Guidance Counselors
118.30 Psychological Personnel
187.50 Other Instructional Personnel - Includes staff developers, teacher trainers, athletic coaches, remedial specialists, and other school-level instructional professionals.
221.50 Teacher Aides
0.00 Library Aides
7.00 Other Aides

The major difference between 5a,b,c and 5 was that table 5 included Central Office staff. Although it makes sense the Central Office has, for example, backup teachers or resource pools to float between schools; it does make it difficult to determine who is actually assigned to the Central Office and who isn't.

The main thing that has to happen is for the public to realize that the teachers union is there to advocate for teachers and not students or families, so we need to vote the opposite way the apple ballot tells us to. I'm not anti-teacher in any way but their union makes student outcomes worse. If you don't believe me, replace "teacher's union" with "police union" and tell me how the police union makes citizens safer. I'm not anti-police, but their union is there to defend them at all cost which harms the public, just like the teachers union. That's what a union does.

Teachers working conditions are students learning conditions. If I lose my planning period because I have no one to protect my rights, your kid suffers. This board really hates teachers and then is the first to cry out when there aren't enough left in schools. We're doing our best.
OK, now do how police unions help the public.

Well many consultant teachers are groomed for principals who further make teachers lives hell. If the system wasn't so abusive to the troops on the front line teachers wouldn't feel like they were abused on a regular basis by children and adults.

And the information came from the Staff Employed at School and Central Office Levels Maryland Public Schools October 2021 document. Not sure where the "11,300 non-teaching staff" came from, since the other document is what they reported up to the State?
