Not sure how that is a benefit to Chantilly community. Would-be TJ kids that were rejected and stay at Chantilly are going to go off and do their own great things while further pushing up Chantilly's stats. That means the average kid at Chantilly gets less attention and less resources.

It could also be that the average kids would be inspired too, learn from the otherwise TJ kids and contribute to the school and community. Hopefully overall school gets more opportunities and gets better overall. We have seen some kids don't even want to compete in an event where TJ kids are competing, this should change with time and open more avenues for non-TJ schools.

I hope the Vice principal was referring to the seniors, class of 2024 who have impressive stats. Implying that juniors (first class under new policy) or even sophomores have PSAT scores close to an all time high is wrong and false. Because scores for those classes are well below previous TJ classes.

Yes overall nationally. PSAT scores are up so it is predicted that selection index cut offs will rise in most states. Interestingly, PSAT scores went down for TJ students admitted under the new system. Can’t blame this drop on Covid.

Your kid will likely make the cut. This past year cut off was 219 for VA (historically very low for VA) but predictions are it will be around 222? For class of 2025. You can google this information and prediction cutoffs for class of 2025 by state.

Wow. If that is true then admin (at least that vice principal) is lying. I have a child in the junior class of 2025 and the PSAT average for class of 2025 (first class admitted under new system) at TJ is 1352. It is right there on the score report next to my child’s score.

Believe the PP who posted average PSAT for class of 2024 (89 points above class of 2025) and the averages for earlier years. In the current senior class Something like 165 were NMSF and 180 were commended. You cannot get even close to those numbers with an average PSAT score in the 1350s. So the number of NMSF and commended in the class of 2025 will dramatically decline when announced next year.
