To be fair, the Loudoun model does suck, regardless of how it benefits it kids. The effectively play in NWSL and definitely do not play in the SFL, but Herndon will never do anything about that.

It was sort of telling when one Loudoun father was filming clips for his DD on the iPad....just a rec player, ok.

My son also had fun at the Herndon tournament this past weekend (it helped his team won his age group/bracket lol).

I have another son who plays intense travel soccer (MLS Next) and have been to many such tournaments over the years. Yes, the Herndon tournament was not as well run; yes, some things were strange (25 minute games?); yes, it is crazy that the team didn't know about the Sunday's schedule until late into the night on Saturday.

But recognize it for what it is -- a local rec tournament -- and just enjoy it for that. There will be snafus and problems for any sort of low-cost, volunteer funded event like this. I'm just glad that the kids got a chance to play and compete and have fun.

Alexandria’s rec weekend a couple of weeks ago went well. It was run the same way as their travel tournaments and was not expensive

CYA seems to have a lot of yeller coaches. And it’s usually a couple of them together barking directions. They joystick who takes free throws etc. and ride the refs hard. Then they get upset when their kids who are rec stars can’t make a high school team where the coach expects them to think

Telling parents who arent from HYS to volunteer is just not helpful. Parents outside of the leauge are not asked to volunteer nor should they be! Its the hosting clubs responsible. As someone else said telling parents of syc or fpyc or loudon clubs they should step up is just... not how it works.

How could a rec all star team be too good to play in a rec tournament? That's silly. Loudoun teams are usually good b/c they have SO many kids to choose from.

They had plenty of field space. The participating clubs (eg CYA, BRYC) offer up fields they won't be using. It makes sense to put all of one age group on one field.

I get that the refs could use the break, but teams should have been ready and on the field, especially for games 3 and 4. Shooting on goal really didn't change much other than cause delays.

Herndon has to get permits. Smart clubs line those up well ahead of time.

Field use was also very poorly managed. I drove by Greenbrier and saw nothing but emptiness. They have so much useable grass to allow teams to set up and practice. That was obviously a FFX Parks call, but a bad one. I also noticed Chantilly HS wasn't being used either. Sounds like Herndon took no for an answer many times.
