Seem like at least they know how to place kids.

Why not Union or vda then?

Or Loudon/NVA?

Realistically, these clubs are all the same. Just go where your kid is enjoying it and developing.

OP was talking college placement. Loudoun is nowhere FCV, vda, Union in college placement.

NVA - Wake Forest, Ohio State, Michigan State, LSU, Penn State, etc.

Recruited walk on slots are nothing to get too excited about.

Yep even the non walk ons as freshmen will be lucky to get a few minutes in garage time. Also the well know D1 schools are recruiting All ECNL type players. Overall very few players from the area get in to a top 100 school let alone a top 20 school. Even if your kid is an all star better have a plan B.

To PP -- sure you can get excited about being recruited. Not sure why you think not. Yes the top D1 schools recruiting top talent. But the DMV has a number to the top programs. Also top D3 programs which for a lot of girls is the goal.

I have followed a few clubs over the years. There maybe one or two girls every year or two who end up at a well know D1-D3 schools. Most end up at schools that are not competitive- ie the player would get in without soccer. It is really a misnomer to use “recruited” if you are familiar with process.

Anonymous wrote:The schedule for private high school sports in Virginia overlaps with the fall season schedule of the MA ECNL.

It's mainly this. 08s have large percentage of team in private schools, so two games during the week and one to two games on a weekend (especially away games) plus trying to juggle the additional academic load that comes sophomore year. They've also had key injuries at critical positions that they are working through. Time will tell. Private high school season is over. The ARL 08s had a strong showing at the PDA friendlies. If they continue to play strong through the next few games, it was fatigue. I don't think the team and parents are pushing any panic buttons though...

Hard to find “developing” club around here

Youth clubs have zero obligation to provide that. There is no governing body that oversees or establishes standards any longer like there was when the DA existed. Only way to find that fit is to let your DS/DD experience a few clubs during ID sessions and make that decision yourself.

How old is your DD?

U13. It’s hard to know what coaches plan are because they all care about winning (some also care about development) but at the end of the day they want to win and will do what best for the team (not necessarily best for your kid situation). Coaches at other clubs will make a lot of promises to have you bring your kid over but the grass isn’t alway greener. Not in the DMV anyway.

NVA has certainly turned a corner with the 07 Class and are lined up for at least 2 more good years in the 08s and 09s.

I agree on what a previous poster said however. With so many good clubs around, find the right coach and atmosphere for your DD. Both will make your DD a much better player and more likely to be considered a D1 player.

Lastly, moving clubs during of after U15 season is extremely hard. Many teams and it's players have been playing together for years and have relationships. Your DD will have to break through on the field and earn her spot on top of all the BS politics that go on at almost every club.

P.S. Don't worry about the record of a team before U14. A lot of teams can completely turn around before U16, which is the most important season for girls looking to go to Big D1 schools.

VDA 07s won 1-0 over FC Copa ECRL day 1 and followed up with another win over an RL team 1-0, PDA Blue RL.

FCV played were placed top division for each age group entered. FCV 09s 0-2-0. 09s held their own against ECNL Nat’l Champion PDA Blue in a 2-0. They also lost 1-0 to New England Champs, SUSA 1-0. FCV 08s won both 2-0 over PDA Blue and SUSA ECNL which is impressive. FCV 07s lost 1-0 to #2 ranked PDA blue. FCV 07s are currently ranked #47. FCV won over World Class ECNL the day before, 2-1.

Arlington 07s lost to STA GA and followed up the next day with a 3-1 win over SJEB GA, finishing 1-1. Arlington 08s started off strong with a 4-0 win over SJEB GA and then followed up with a 1-0 win over NYSC GA, 1-0. Arlington did not enter an 09 team.

NVA, Brave, or Union did not enter the showcase.

I find it funny how you say FCV held their own in a 0-2 loss while VDA just lost 0-2. They both lost. You would have to watch the game to consider if one team "held their own" in the same loosing score.

If you know about the 09 FCV team, you know that they aren’t known to be a good team and VDA is a very good team so I think held their own is perfectly fine. VDA ranked #23 and FCV ranked #53. Also consider they are GA which is not as strong.

Seems like GA Mid Atlantic is more competitive than in past years. The 09 group in particular has had a few losses in their league already , so playing in top PDA bracket is not really a big step up in competition, if at all. Also, these are showcases, with players missing, guest players, etc. They don't mean as much on a team level as we'd like to think they do.
