Same with bike lanes. The purpose of our transportation system should be to move as many people around as efficiently as possible. It shouldn't be to put your thumb on the scale for modes of transportation favored by young lefties that few people actually want to use.

Buses are very efficient. Bicycles are very efficient. Cars are very inefficient.

Do you think creating special lanes for people who want to get around via horseback would be efficient?

Creating dedicated lanes for ways of getting around that only a tiny share of people actually use is the definition of inefficiency.

Are you the person who said "The purpose of our transportation system should be to move as many people around as efficiently as possible."? Because if so, you should support a transportation system that encourages public transit, biking, and walking (which are efficient), and discourages driving around in a car by yourself (which is very inefficient).

You: the bus is bad because it's slow
Also you: one of the main things that slows buses is not the reason for the bus being bad

i used to ride the bus every day for many years. if i had to make a list of reasons why it sucked and hopefully i will never do it again, car traffic would not be in the top 20. there are SO many other reasons to hate the bus.

Such as the threat of violence? Can't tell you how many buses I've been on where people start screaming obscenities at each other for reasons that are difficult to understand.

This. I get the sense that the folks pushing dedicated lanes have never actually taken the bus.

That makes complete sense! Having to share the road with a slower form of transportation isn't a dedicated road, it's a shared one, and it slows the faster mode of transportation down considerably.

Now just…apply that standard consistently…

Are you arguing in favor of dedicated bike infrastructure and dedicated bus infrastructure? That sounds good to me.

But somehow I suspect the real point of this plan is to make life difficult for people who choose to drive cars.

The dedicated bus lanes will actually make life less difficult for drivers who will no longer have to deal with merging buses.

Frequent buses are good. Express buses are good. Dedicated bus lanes are good.

At a certain point walking is faster than the bus.

Bus lanes speed up bus trips.

Buses run roughly every 30 minutes. Are they adding more buses in the rotation? Or just that instead of being late by 5 minutes, they will just be on time at 30 minutes. I now drive, but I rode the bus for most of my life. Bus lanes won’t make a difference unless they’re adding more buses to the route which they won’t do.

You were never on any buses that were delayed by car traffic or by having to merge back into car traffic? I sure have. And being on time is better than being late.

Sure I have. Just as I have been delayed while driving a car. Backups happen, but I don’t see how a dedicated bus lane is justified.

Well, there you go. That's how dedicated bus lanes will help improve bus service.

Have you ever been on a bike? Or a bus? It actually is a dedicated bus lane.

But bikes can have any lane they want.

Bus ridership is going up. Also, you know what helps with bus ridership? Better bus service. And you know what helps with better bus service? Buses not being delayed by cars.

Are they realy delayed by cars (not including the ones that are turning and will still be in the Bis lanes) or are they delayed by all the stops?

Both. The dedicated lanes will especially help the C2/C4 buses, though, which have fewer stops.
