Why is this? I have only been on one cruise and it was a medium sized ship. Not sure if I will do another cruise, but a 40 minute drive to Baltimore sounds pretty appealing, even if it’s on a smaller ship. I’m sure “small” is relative, since I have seen the cruise ships in the bay, and they look plenty big.

I've been twice out of Baltimore on the Carnival Pride pre-covid.
Once in November and once for Christmas. Never cruised before so nothing to compare it to, other than the Carnival horror stories as to it being the "People of WalMart Cruise Line" LOL!
(We are doing an Alaskan Cruise on Celebrity Edge next year so I guess I will find out!)
The Christmas cruise was colder and the seas were rough day 1 and the night before we came home. But enjoyed both cruises immensely. Both cruises it was warm enough to swim on day 1 at sea. My room and steward was great, and I enjoyed hanging on deck reading a book at the serenity spa pool deck area.
I remember the last night on the Christmas Cruise watching movies, eating ice cream snuggled in blankets they give you by the pool and it started to snow. Definitely memorable if not a little magical! I think we just went in and watched a comedy show at that point! There was always something to do.
It was pretty neat when you go under that bridge, and The ship got us to the Bahamas, and that was kind of the whole point!

We're doing the week before Christmas out of NJ so we'll be on a larger ship. Maybe consider that one instead? I am really interested in sailing out of Baltimore at some point and know the older/smaller ships sail from there. I vote for giving it a try or checking out NJ.
