None of these things have happened...yet.

Our neighbor was walking a pit bull and it pulled away from her and she lost the leash. She was frantically trying to catch it. There were little kids walking around and elderly people working in their yards. It was scary.

I'm sorry you are dealing with this.

I'd buy some bear spray or mace and keep it readily available at your house in case the pitbull attacks someone.

NP but I absolutely blame the owners for not taking better care of their fence, and, for owning Pitt bulls in the first place. Show me another breed that routinely attacks and KILLS humans, unprovoked, with no history of violent concerning behavior previously.

I don't think that the dogs that attack do so without warning. Either they were backyard chained dogs or they gave warnings that the owners ignored.

Wow - I don't have a pit because I don't really have the space for them, but they are lovable dogs. It's poor training where they get the bad rap. I'd rather have a pit than some nasty small rat dog.

Is it normal in your neighborhood to keep dogs tied in the front yard? Would be considered very strange (and rude) in ours. Are the owners home when the dog is out there? Surely the barking would get annoying to even them? Most dogs will bark at people approaching the house or passing by- it is what they do. It doesn’t necessarily mean they are aggressive. If I were to tie our large breed in the front yard, the barking would drive everyone crazy I’m sure. She is generally fine in the fenced backyard- if she starts barking we shush her and bring her in if she doesn’t stop. We don’t leave her outside when we are not home.

But- it depends on the neighborhood I suppose. If they have a backyard, I’d consider asking if they would consider putting the dog in the backyard during the hours children are commonly outside playing. If your kids are school age, that is probably only a few hours a day on weekdays anyway.
