  • An easel? (although I think the Ikea one is honestly best, but there's lots of pricey ones if you just want to spend money...)
    Dollhouse
Some sort of indoor climbing thing if you have space (nugget, pikler with slide, wobble board)
New helmet for the scooter? My kids actually really want this, but theirs still fit so not getting yet
Afternoon tea or outing with grandparents?
Lovevery or kiwi crate or some sort of subscription?
Donation in child's name plus small gift (we've been able to convince my parents of this, not inlaws, but we get lots of hand me down toys from older cousins, plus gifts from aunts and uncles and grandparents, so we really don't *need* anything)
Sensory table like the Flisat or other kids table and chairs

iPad? Motorized car? DisneyWorld? A Cruise?
Those have been some of my daughter’s big ticket items and jewelry.

Anything else we should be thinking about? We have no outdoor space/backyard so no playset or other large outdoor toys.

What are things they can buy that you wouldn't otherwise be able to afford or otherwise purchase? Any classes, contributions for vacations etc?

Think about how you envision the next 12 mos for DC and how they can best contribute to that.

Just speaking from my own experience - we had a grandparents request like that - what we ended up doing was going on a weeklong vacation to an extremely nice resort in Mexico together...wasn't paid for totally by the grandparents but their contribution made it a much more high end resort than we'd have paid for if we were going alone with DC...and while there grandparents also spent a lot of time with DC that allowed DH and I to spend a lot more alone time than we would have otherwise.

In any event, ^^ might not be your cup of tea, but just an example of how you might think outside the box on this one.

Lego duplo train sets. There are a few sets that go together. My three year old plays non stop with them.

No way - they would look at it as more of a gift to me bc they know I will pay for all that.

Give yourself the gift of telling the grandparents to calm down. They don't need to bury a three year old in toys.

Your kid would much rather have standing weekly outings with them, or FaceTimes, or weekly postcards, whatever their time/distance/budget allows.

Ours wouldn’t want to spend money on overpriced junk and would rather add to the college fund but you know your parents beat.

Oh yes! Dress up clothes are a great idea. They were a hit for my girls at that age.

This can get pretty expensive without taking up much space (order lots of specialty trains, not a ton of tracks)
