I like it for a woman, but somehow it doesn't feel right for a girl. I'll note that I have a similarly distinctive first name, which I like, but I've always gone by my nickname. I can see choosing Celeste, but using the nickname CeCe. And, similarly, my college roommate is Cecilia, who goes by CeCe. If I didn't want to use CeCe, I'd probably go for Celia.

+1 I like it. A real name, pretty, not super popular. I guess you could use CeCe for a nickname, but in my immediate circle there are are gang of Cecelias running around so I'd avoid that.

The Celeste at my work doesn't go by any nickname.

I like a lot of the alternative suggestions you've gotten -- Celine, Cecelia, Serene.

I once knew a Latina girl named Celeste. Her friends gave it a little Spanish accent, and that was cute ... it got rid of the "molest" sound.

I think of the actress Celeste Holm. Most people today don’t know her, but it’s a positive association.
