Swim team.

I was surprised at how social and how much mentorship happens in swim team. My under 10 kid was always paired with an older buddy to cheer for her and there are so many social events. It really helped my kid come out of her shell. Plus, getting an objective feedback that her times were getting faster was very motivating.

Tennis is nice too, but if your kid needs a break from balls, nothing beats swimming.

My son is fairly introverted and has thrived in swim and tennis. Individual sports, but still a team environment. He has made his best friends through these activities.

I’m not sure I’d draw a connection between shyness/introversion (which are themselves two different things) and sports preference?

One of my kids is fairly shy/introverted but LOVES soccer. Brings her completely out of her shell.

I’ll give another perspective. My DD is shy and introverted. She did not enjoy soccer as a young kid either. But she thrived in basketball (in addition to a couple of other sports already mentioned). Even though her disposition was quiet/shy, she became fierce on the court. And basketball is different than lax/soccer/field hockey b/c you are catching the ball and it feels more controlled in the beginning.

In our fcps school, winter track tryouts are next Monday - Wednesday. It’s a good time to look into it.

Indoor/ winter track and spring/ outdoor track has been great for my introvert.

Shorter distances than cross country, plus there are field events like long jump, high jump, etc.

The teams are really tight, usually pretty big anbd welcoming and have pasta parties and stuff.

Are you 3 years old?

There is a poster that jumps in and calls kids who fence weirdos every time fencing is mentioned. Freaking weirdo that poster…

True, although catching a crab is not without unexpected dangers.
