They are required to have parity with the girls' sports. Find your kid a boys volleyball club to play for (do those even exist)?
I have 3 boys in MS and HS and have never heard of any of their friends playing volleyball. It just isn't popular enough to justify adding.
If they are going to add anything, it should be freshman soccer for boys and girls. That would actually be popular.
Just because your kid doesn’t play volleyball doesn’t mean other kids don’t play or want to play.
Well, then start advocating for another girls team as well. My vote would be for girls flag football. Lots of new leagues popping up.

Anonymous wrote:Gym space shouldn’t be an issue in the fall. Boys and girls basketball are held in the same season, with three teams each. Volleyball should be able to work it out. Anothet option is to hold girls volleyball in the spring when there are no gym sports.

+1. These parents and kids have been going to meeting after meeting about this with no comments about the Title IX issue.
I’m not familiar with Title IX but when looking at the list of fall sports, there are more girl sports than boy sports.
Number of sports isn't the issue, it's the number of slots and the funding. Football is both huge and expensive
Our football team has banners, private trainers who come onsite to do speed/agility, free meals, and a huge "tunnel" that only they get to use. It's ridiculous.
Meanwhile, we had out of state HS tournaments for our girls team and had to drive individually b/c we didn't have the budget for a bus.

Fcps doesnt not fund sports. Hence various teams' fundraisers and Booster Club.
Some sports are absolutely funded. Others (rowing, dance) are not. I have no idea why some are chosen to be funded and others aren’t.
Are rowing and dance club sports vs varsity?

No one is trying to replace football. These boys already play volleyball. They are trying to make it an official varsity sport.
Something would have to be cut. Right now, there is balance between boys and girls sports in terms of number of slots available and in terms of budget. Adding another boys sport means something gets cut or you find another girls sport to make varsity
I don’t know why these people don’t get it. They keep pushing this issue when there is a reason for it to be like it is. And with all the more important issues out there, it’s crazy that they keep taking up meeting time and high level staff time with this issue.
