OP here: Yes, gain has been steady in 2023. And I am not sure I am "done" with the weight gain. As I mentioned, unless I really deprive myself (no carbs, no sugar), I cannot get back down to my usual weight of 132, which I was never happy about to begin with. I do daily yoga and weekend long walks - this is about all my current schedule allows. I may try to put some heavy weights in my kitchen and left when I can here and there. It's a bummer.

I don’t see the post. Can you share the link?

My eating has not changed. My current diet is mostly IF and low carb with indulgences like pizza once a week and dessert/cocktail on weekends. But the weight crept on this year. I have found unless I go (i) zero carbs, (ii) IF and (iii) no sugar, I cannot get back to 132. The thing is, I like to eat. I eat relatively healthy, but I like to have dessert and a cocktail or two on weekends. I am trying to come to terms with the fact that either I do no carb/no sugar to get back to 132 (which I was always trying to get below anyway) or I just enjoy my life and suck it up at being 137. Anyone relate?

You have a normal BMI, and a 5 pound weight shift can be due to fluid alone. You need to just chill out.

I was able to gather from her post that this isn't just a one week fluid retention situation. Were you not?

Firstly, you're an ass. You have to make a lot of assumptions, since no where does OP state that either she regularly weighs herself nor that there was any change in how her clothes fit.

NP. But it seemed obvious from her post the 5 lbs has been around for some time now..

When you're on the shorter side, yes.

DP Agree. I'm 5'4 and 5 pounds means my size 4 pants start feeling snug, and 8 pounds means I'm a size 6 (which I don't have in my closet)

DP 5'1" and currently around 110-112 down from 115-118 because I've been more active than usual with summer and after getting a dog. I definitely notice the difference in my clothes and in how I feel. With the colder, darker weather (starting this weekend UGH) I won't be as active so I'll go up again. Five pounds matters at my height and body frame.

OP, I can definitely relate. I am 48 and as of the past 6 months, I have had to keep track of every morsel that goes into my mouth in a way I never did previously in order to keep off 5 pounds that makes my pants not fit. This is in addition to a consistent running and lifting routine. It's annoying.

I'm 5'7 and the difference between 140 and 145 is a pants size.

no it's not.

DP. Why are you dismissing someone else's personal experience?

It may not make a difference to YOU, but to those of us who carry the extra weight in our midsection, yes absolutely an extra 5 pounds would mean a different pant size.

Yoga also helps tighten the muscles and make you look better - so you don't focus so much on the scale number. Plus you're stronger and more flexible overall.

Disagree. I'm 5'2" and don't notice 5 pounds either way. Still wear the same clothes.

Anonymous wrote:I started gaining weight in mid-30s, after having my thyroid removed. But I've found a new plateau that isn't that bad (BMI 20), so you may not balloon to unhealthy proportions, OP. Just keep an eye on it.

So you were severely underweight before, and have now resigned yourself to being just barely normal weight. You inspire me.

+1

How much weight gain would it take for you to care? It’s a lot easier to lose 5 lbs (or accept it, but weigh regularly to make sure it isn’t more), than to lose 10+

F age 62. Lifting weights (heavy) is the only thing that allows me to eat what I want and maintain my weight.
