They used to charge tuition of $300 per half credit course, so I imagine it will be something like that again.

Both. You must attend classes at the scheduled times but much of the work is asynchronous.
I’d note that you won’t know if you were accepted into the class until about 48 hours before it starts so be prepared to keep your summer open with no guarantee of getting into the class.
Any efforts to get earlier information from MCPS gets a response of “you should hear from the teacher 24-72 hours before the first class.” We heard from one class the same day it started which felt unnecessarily stressful.
How does that work for most families? They either have sports, camps or work.
Did you even look at the MCPS website? They have two different semesters and they have several different times. You either make it work or you take it during the school year. We scheduled it around camps, sports and other things. Its virtual and the classes are mostly check ins but its a lot of busy work.
No I mean, if you’re only hearing if you are enrolled in the class at the very last minute, it’s pretty frustrating to have turned down other opportunities/jobs/plans/trips if you don’t know for sure you have a spot.

Anonymous wrote:Yes. It is immensely frustrating and the kind of things that seemly like it would have disproportionate impact on kids from less wealthy families. Our kids would survive without a job in any circumstance but some families need their kids to get a job, or watch siblings, etc and can’t wait until the last minute to figure it out. It feels shockingly tone deaf to the reality of the students that might benefit the most from having the option.

You don’t schedule your kid for camp during summer school weeks and you don’t do conflicting sports. As far as getting your kid there, we dropped off but they either took a county bus or ride their bikes home.

It felt late -- maybe March or April? Bookmark this page and check it every couple weeks for dates & registration info: https://www2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/extendedhours/summerschool/
