+1 to all the Shenandoah University recommendations. It’s close by (Winchester), and had an incredible music program. A family member went there and made some of their closest friends.

This.

Correct. See: VCUArts.

It does, and it's on our list, but it's auditioned based so not a safety.

Ask on College Confidential's music major forum. You'll get more informed--and polite--answers. Music majors absolutely need safeties, and you are smart to think about it.

It's complete crap, but the others I know are Curtis, Julliard and Peabody, so... maybe it's OK for the things OP's son is looking for.

You can only name 4 music Ed programs, 3 of which you are wrong about, so you came here to give advice?

Please, enlighten us as to what I am wrong about.

Curtis, and Julliard don't offer undergraduate music ed degrees. Catholic's program is closed to new applicants. On your list only Peabody has a program that is continuing.

I am a little skeptical how you know a program is "complete crap" without knowing that it's currently closed to new applicants.

DP. As far as I know, conservatories such as Curtis, Julliard, and Peabody, do not have music education programs, only performance related programs.

This was going to be my suggestion, along with Shenandoah University.
