There’s no way Dc has that many trees. That’s impossible.

LOL the "Golf Lobby" doesn't golf at RCP. They golf at private clubs.

Except what you said isn’t true:

The most common species surveyed are tuliptree, American beech, oak, and maple. Just about half of those trees, 49%, could be removed as part of the project. About 200 new native trees would be planted once the construction is complete

Everyone who wants to golf and can't afford a country club.

So, something like 6 people?

You people are clueless losers with no hobby. Try getting a 8 am Tee time at East Potomac and then get back to us how it's unused.

I'm convinced this is all quiet racism because the course is used mostly by blacks.

It’s really not quiet racism.

There is zero need to clear cut half of the mature trees on the golf course. I played RCP back in 2010 and it was an abomination back then and now its supposedly even worse. Sounds like intentional neglect by those operating the course.

NPS needs to repair what they already have. It’s a good course if its maintained properly. Why has NPS and their contractor neglected maintenance for the last decade plus?

I’m fully in favor of putting money into RCP course. But they really ought to work with what they have and bring it back to its former state.

Yes, it is. I wouldn't never walk or jog there or Glover Archbold alone as a woman, or likely as a man. They found other bodies in Rock Creek while they were searching for Chandra (who they found eventually).

This is one of the most asinine posts I've ever read here. Glover Archbold? Yeah, it's totally a no-mans land over there, with the kids skipping rocks in the stream and the three dozen dogs going up-and-down the path. Sometimes, there are even elderly people walking alone!

And bodies, plural, during the Levy search. Provide proof.

I grew up next to Rock Creek. Was always going there to bike and hike. Never had a problem. Could be sitting around a fire pit in the middle of the woods drinking beers at night, nothing would happen. I have played Rock Creek golf course before. Its ok if you are young and dont have alot of $. Sligo Creek is better.

Yes but you’ve never gone on a walk or hike with another person?

Does anyone who doesn;t drive use Rock Creek? I'm from DC and I've only gone to that little book a BBQ area on the side for school events. I've never gone "in". How do you get to the golf course and horse stables and walking trails without a car? I'm from DC. Maybe my parents took me? Can't really remember. For me it's a nice lung for the city, like central park. I like looking down at the trees from bridges. It makes getting across town inconvenient. It's not a park I use. I use other parks way more; that's why I worry when development encroaches on the smaller, more accessible green spaces. But sure, I'm glad it's there. Again, I don't use it and I wouldn't feel safe walking most parts alone. And no, I've not walked or hiked Rock Creek with anyone else. Is this a thing?

yes it's a thing! i take my kids there on hikes ALL the time. During the pandemic we went every week. they know their way around the paths and can get to pierce mill/the horse stables/that big open field. I do have a car and drive and park. When I lived closer to Columbia Heights/Mt. P I would walk/run in there a lot, though. There is a really sweet spot near Mount Pleasant that always feels safe.

Wow, in my many years in DC I had no idea it was a thing. I've been to the Arboretum a million times (others driving). Weird. Thanks for explaining.

Where in DC did you grow up? I grew up about a mile from Rock Creek and went there all the time as a kid- biking, hiking, throwing sticks into streams. I go there at least once a week now that I am grown to walk my dog or go for a run. It gets tons of use- walk on any path on a Saturday and there is a traffic jam of people, kids and dogs hiking/ running etc through.

About the same number of people who benefit from closing Beach Dr to cars.

NPS thankfully has a broader perspective than just catering to a specific group of people and their favored activities.

No. This is a National Parks Service matter. Funding is by Congress to the Department of Interior.
