On average, a name takes about 100 years to feel fresh again. All of the people who remember the generation when it peaked have to die basically.

Personally, I wouldn’t use it. Your child will have an “old lady name” her whole life. I (millennial) have a friend named Cheryl and feel so bad for her. It’s like her parents were tone deaf?

I think it's weird to give kids names that they are likely to share with their friend's moms, unless it's a true classic that doesn't feel dated to a specific era. Lindsay/Lindsey really peaked in popularity in the mid-80s to late 90s, so that's a big no for me. Lindsay didn't even crack the top 1000 until 1949, and didn't break into the top 500 until the mid-70s. Lindsey was even later-- it doesn't hit the top 1000 until the 70s, likely as Lindsay gained popularity, it quickly gained traction as an alternate spelling.

All of which is to say, if you name your kid Lindsay/Lindsey now, there's a good chance she'll share the name with a ton of Millennial moms, teachers, etc. But no one else.

So no, I do not think it's ripe for a revival. Let it simmer.

It’s somewhere between twee little girl and trashy teen.

+1

It's a frothy, vapid name, and can veer from LMC suburban to downright trashy. This one is for parents who aren't extremely cultured or sophisticated.

I would love to meet the people who make comments like this. So funny.

Do you like the name? Why do you care if other people like it or if it is “ready for a comeback”? How very odd.

It's in the same category as Kelly, Kimberly, Amber, Nevaeh.

Lindsay/Lindsey, Kelly, and Kimberly have nothing to do with Amber and Nevaeh.

This was the most common girls' name in my class. Older millennial here.

This says much more about you than the name Lindsay or anyone who chooses it.

It's a pretty name, and although I wouldn't describe it as classic, I also wouldn't say it's so outdated-sounding that people will think it's weird.
